Stomach Trouble

Last night we went over to my in-laws for my birthday dinner (which was actually earlier this month, but I'm not complaining because it was a night I didn't have to cook and hey, we're busy people and it's hard to find a time when everyone can come).  We ate a lot of food and after we ate, my mother-in-law would not let me help clean up.  What a treat!  I got to sit and visit with family and watch my daughter throw embarrassing fits.  My mother-in-law got to watch her darling granddaughter get spanked and put in time-out.  It was great.  However, I can't even remember the last time I got to just sit after eating a big dinner.  Usually I'm up and running after shoving the last forkfull of food into my mouth.  The table has to be cleared, hands to be wiped, floor to be mopped, baths to be given, dishwasher to be loaded...that kind of thing.  Well, hopping up after eating has proved to be a must for me because sitting still after eating has wreaked havoc on my digestive system.  I've always heard that it's good to walk around after eating a big meal, it helps digestion.  Sitting still does not.  By the time we got home I had such terrible stomach cramps I couldn't even sit on the couch and enjoy some dvr'd shows with My Man.  I had to drink a big glass of water and go lay of my left side.  And when I woke up at 4:40am, I was still on my left side.  As I rolled into a new position, I could feel my stomach moaning and groaning inside of me.  (And this wasn't a poop thing - I didn't need to poop)  So, I got up gingerly this morning and drank my hot tea, hoping it would help ease my discomfort.  And while it did help me do my morning "duty" I am still tender.  So, my advice for you today is to get up after dinner and walk a few laps around the table if your mother-in-law tells you not to help clean up the kitchen.  Your tummy will thank you later.

Was that T.M.I.?

PS - My stomach issue had NOTHING to do with the wonderful meal provided to my by my wonderful mother-in-law.  She made my requested meal:  pork loin, mashed potatoes (made by my wonderful sister-in-law), gravy, mixed veggie casserole, hot bread, wilted lettuce and for dessert, extra rich chocolate cake with chocolate icing and vanilla ice cream.  It was a to-die-for meal!  But I didn't die, I just had stomach cramps, but not from the meal, mind you, it was from sitting stationary for too long.  I also got a red purse and a giftcard to AmazonKindle for new books!  Yay!

This Week 2/7/11

Yay!  I figured out how to post a link!  So, when I use a recipe that's been posted online somewhere, I will provide the link so you can check it out for yourself!

Wanna hear what I'm cooking this week?  I know you're on the edge of your seats reading this.  Be advised:  I'm kind of in a cooking slump.  Do you ever have one of those?  The past two weeks the snow has really thrown a wrench in my menu.  With the kids home during the day I would find myself preparing dinner at lunchtime and then at dinnertime I was trying to find something to fix.  Things got crazy I tell ya!

So, this week I'm preparing my old stand-by favorites:

Monday:  Leftover vegetable beef stew and cornbread (there is no link for this one but I DID post it a few months ago)
Tuesday:  Beef Stroganoff, green beans and crescent rolls (the tube kind...why re-invent the wheel, right?)
Wednesday:  Kohler Spaghetti, steamed broccoli, garlic breadsticks
Thursday:  Roast, carrots, noodles, green beans, crescent rolls

Friday:  hamburgers, tator tots and macaroni-n-cheese
Saturday:  Hot date
Sunday:  Wrestling Meet - I'm hoping to eat out afterward!

I think I'll throw in a couple nights of brownies, jello and maybe an apple pie.
